The Cascate del Bucamante are located in the Appennino Modenese, within the municipality of Serramazzoni, and are fed by the rio Bucamante, a tributary of the Tiepido stream. They represent one of the most famous and accessible natural oases in the Modena foothills, characterized by a cool environment and a humid microclimate that fosters a lush growth of ferns, mosses, and wild ivy. Source: In Appennino Modenese The site consists of several waterfalls and successive drops flowing over limestone walls and layers of travertine (locally known as "spugna"), a soft sedimentary rock formed by calcium deposits carried by the water itself. The main drop, located in the upper section, plunges into a clear natural pool surrounded by a narrow wooded gorge. Access to the area is well-organized and suitable for various types of hikers. The two main paths to reach them start from: Granarolo (a hamlet of Serramazzoni): From here, the "Odina" (lower) trail begins—an easy, mostly flat path perfect for families. It follows the stream past small wooden bridges and educational panels to the foot of the main waterfall (approx. 20-30 minutes). Serramazzoni (main town): The "Tiziano" (upper) trail descends from the top of the town toward the gorge, offering a panoramic view of the falls from above before joining the stream bed.
