Ponte Olina

Built in 1522 at the behest of the Estensi and Montecuccoli families, the historic Ponte di Olina has served for centuries as a vital strategic link between the Appennino modenese and Tuscany. Architecturally, the structure is renowned for its bold parabolic sandstone arch—a feat of engineering far ahead of its time, designed to distribute weight and eliminate tension. At the peak of the span, the bridge is adorned with a characteristic sacred shrine dating back to 1581. This monumental masterpiece soars elegantly over the waters of the Scoltenna stream, blending seamlessly into a wild and pristine natural landscape. Today, beautifully restored and reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, the bridge offers a timeless atmosphere, perfect for history enthusiasts and slow tourism lovers.
